Custom football uniforms in bulk: what US teams should order

August 16, 2026 · Sourcing

Bulk custom football uniforms should ship as jersey and pant sets in 240 to 320 GSM performance polyester, with reinforced shoulder and side seams, pad-compatible cuts, and sublimated or tackle-twill numbers that meet NFHS size and contrast rules. Expect a 10 to 24 set minimum per design, 3 to 5 weeks of production, and roughly $48 to $95 per set factory-direct.

Football gear takes more physical abuse than any other team kit. It gets grabbed, tackled, dragged across turf, and washed every week for three to five seasons. Buying it in bulk is less about the lowest sticker price and more about specs that survive that punishment and a plan that lands the boxes before your first game. This guide covers the construction, decoration, US rules, cost, and timeline for ordering a full roster of custom football uniforms straight from the factory. If you want the wider decision framework across sports, start with our custom team uniform buyer's guide.

What should you look for in bulk custom football uniforms?

Football is a contact sport, so the spec sheet matters more than the mockup. A soccer-weight jersey looks fine in a photo and fails by week six. Demand these specs in writing before you approve a sample.

Component What to demand Why it matters
Jersey fabric 240 to 320 GSM spandex-poly or pro-mesh Holds shape over shoulder pads and resists tearing on the grab
Seams Double or triple-needle at shoulders and sides, bartacks at stress points Tackling loads the shoulder and side seams first
Pants 4-way stretch spandex-poly, snap or sewn-in pad pockets Keeps thigh and knee pads in place through a full game
Cut Wider shoulder, shorter body than a soccer block A jersey sized for pads plays and looks right
Abrasion and wash Martindale above 30,000 rubs, colorfastness to washing grade 4 to 5 Survives turf and weekly industrial laundering without fading

At our factory every football jersey is knit at 240 GSM or heavier and every seam at the shoulder yoke runs a double-needle chain stitch with bartack reinforcement. We test each fabric batch for abrasion and colorfastness before it enters the cutting room, and we keep those results on file per order. If you only order tops for scrimmage use, spec them separately as football practice jerseys so game kits are not worn down before opening day.

Sublimation or tackle twill for football jerseys?

The decoration method sets both the look and the durability of your numbers. For most programs, full sublimation is the better bulk choice because the design becomes part of the fabric and re-orders match with no thread-color guessing. Tackle twill gives a raised, classic feel at a higher cost and weight.

Factor Full sublimation Tackle twill
Look Unlimited colors, gradients, patterns Raised, stitched, classic texture
Durability Ink dyes the fiber, cannot crack or peel Very durable, edges can lift after years
Added weight None Adds weight and stiffness
Numbers and names Printed, any font or outline Sewn, premium feel, higher labor
Cost per set Included in the base Add $8 to $18 per set

We run both on the same custom football jerseys line, so you can mix a sublimated body with tackle-twill numbers if you want the printed background and the stitched number look. For a full breakdown of how each method behaves on polyester, see sublimation vs embroidery vs DTF.

What do NFHS rules require for football jersey numbers?

This is where US bulk buyers get caught. A high-school game jersey that fails the number rule is illegal on the field no matter how good it looks. The NFHS rulebook, used by most US high schools, sets hard requirements you must build into the artwork, not fix later.

  1. Number height: at least 8 inches high on the front and at least 10 inches on the back, centered horizontally.
  2. Single solid contrasting color: the body of each number must be one solid color that clearly contrasts with the jersey body color. This has been enforced since the 2024 season.
  3. Same both sides: the color and appearance of the number must match on the front and the back.
  4. Home jersey color: home jerseys must all be the same dark color that clearly contrasts with white, and the body may not include white except where the rulebook allows.

We size and place numbers to these minimums by default on any US school order and flag artwork that would fail the contrast test before production. If names and numbers are the part you care most about, our football jerseys with names and numbers page shows the layout options. College and youth leagues vary, so confirm your league's book; youth programs often run their own number rules, which is why we spec youth football uniforms to the league sheet you send us.

What do custom football uniforms cost in bulk?

Factory-direct pricing at team volume, before US import duty. Mixed sizes across a roster count as one order, so youth-to-adult size runs do not raise the per-set price.

Package Per set at team volume
Jersey only, fully sublimated $22 to $38
Jersey plus pants, fully sublimated $48 to $78
Full package: jersey, pants and accessories $65 to $95
Reversible practice jersey $16 to $26
Tackle-twill numbers, add $8 to $18

Our minimum is 10 to 24 sets per design depending on the package, which is far below the 50 to 100 set floors many factories quote. Order full kits through football uniform packages, or jerseys only in volume through bulk football jerseys. Two costs buyers forget: US import duty on the landed order, covered in US apparel tariffs and custom uniform costs, and how minimums and unit price move together, covered in MOQ, pricing and lead times explained.

How should you plan sizes and lead time for a full roster?

The two things that wreck a football order are guessed sizes and a late start. Fix both with a size run and a backward-planned calendar.

  • Collect real sizes. Send every player a size chart and a sample to try on over pads. Do not estimate; a jersey cut for pads fits differently on the body.
  • Order buffer sets. Add 2 to 3 blank-number sets per size band for mid-season signings. A small buffer now is cheaper than a rush re-order later.
  • Back-plan the calendar. Work back from your first game using the timeline below.
  1. 8 to 10 weeks out: lock roster sizes, colors and 2 to 3 design directions.
  2. 6 to 8 weeks out: approve the mockup and order one sample set to verify fit over pads.
  3. 3 to 5 weeks out: approve the sample, submit final names and numbers, production runs.
  4. 1 to 2 weeks out: DDP delivery by air, 3 to 7 days, with buffer sets for late add-ons.

For a busy August and September, start early: late summer is peak season for every US sports factory, and the teams that order in June get their kits without a rush fee.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for custom football uniforms?

Our minimum is 10 to 24 sets per design depending on the package, with mixed youth-to-adult sizes counting as one order. Many factories require 50 to 100 sets, so a smaller program can order a full roster with us without padding the quantity.

How much do custom football uniforms cost in bulk?

Fully sublimated jersey and pant sets run $48 to $78 per set at team volume, full packages $65 to $95, and jerseys only $22 to $38. Player names, numbers and logos are included with sublimation. US import duty is added on the landed order.

Are sublimated football uniforms durable enough for contact?

Yes. Sublimation dyes the polyester fiber, so the design cannot crack, peel or catch during a tackle, and there are no appliques to lift. Durability comes from the fabric spec: demand 240 to 320 GSM with reinforced shoulder and side seams.

Do your jerseys meet NFHS number rules?

Yes. We default US school orders to 8-inch front and 10-inch back numbers in a single solid contrasting color, matching front and back, and we flag any artwork that would fail the contrast rule before production. Send your league book if it differs.

How long does a custom football uniform order take?

Sample in 7 to 10 days, bulk production in 3 to 5 weeks, DDP shipping in 3 to 7 days. Plan 8 to 10 weeks from first contact to delivery, and start earlier for a late-summer season.
